Zhangyu Kong (Hànzì: 孔張喩, Pinyin: Kǒng Zhāngyù, On'yomi: Kō Chōyu) is the owner of Zhangyu Barber's Shop on Three Blades Street in the Lucky Charm Quarter, Wan Chai and a known martial arts expert. He may look menacing, but he is actually a nice person. He is also an acquaintance of Xiuying Hong.
Shenmue II[]
Zhangyu offers to explain the wude to Ryo Hazuki while giving his hair a trim. Explaining, as he sharpens his blade in a threatening manner, he says how those who stray are often hated by other martial artists, even killed when off guard. He then threatens Ryo with the blade to his throat but tells him not to move no matter what happens. A Quick Time Event will then appear, but the player must not press anything to succeed. If Ryo remains calm, Zhangyu is impressed with his guts. What he had been building up to was the wude principle "DAN", be brave and stay calm to make the right decision. If the player presses any button during the QTE prompt, Ryo will get up when Zhangyu puts the blade to his throat, and he will say that Ryo has no courage and to come back when he gains some courage without telling him the wude. Ryo will then have to come back to the shop the next day and the player must not press anything to learn the wude. Each time a button is pressed, you'll have to go back the next day and retry until you succeed.
Once Ryo is leaving Hong Kong to go to Kowloon, he can say goodbye to Zhangyu.
Trivia[]
- Zhangyu's zodiac sign is Scorpio and he has a B blood type.
- Before Jianmin Tao or Zhoushan Xuan tell you to go to Zhangyu (depending on who you went to first), his shop will be closed. However, it is in fact possible to go to Zhangyu first or second if you ask the owner of the shop across the street from Zhangyu's shop about a martial artist. He will refer you to Zhangyu and his shop will be open then so you can go to him early. This will result in different paths to finding out about Guixiang Lee to learn the last wude. If you learn the wude from Zhangyu and Jianmin first, Zhoushan will refer you to the owner of Sunny Capital Pharmacy in the South Carmain Quarter. Learning the wude from Zhangyu and Zhoushan first, will have Jianmin refer you to Guixiang since she is his master and she lives close to where he practices Tai Chi. And learning from Zhangyu last will have him refer you to the owner of Bloom Tailor.
- Zhangyu's English voice actor in Shenmue II is Ryan Drees, who also is the English voice actor for Tom Johnson in Shenmue, and Shuqin Zhang and Master Zhoushan in Shenmue II.
