Hanhui Liu (劉漢輝 Liú Hànhuī) is the monk at Man Mo Temple.
Biography[]
Hanhui is a very serious man who has a deep interest in the Japanese martial arts, he often asks Ryo Hazuki to demonstrate his moves. He is also well acquainted with Chinese martial arts.
He greatly respects the Temple and it's master, Xiuying Hong. He also often gives Shiquan Fu, one of the Temple's apprentices long lectures for always slacking off and never working hard.
Shenmue II[]
Ryo first comes into contact with Hanhui while searching for the martial arts master named Lishao Tao. He says he can meet the master once he learns the four wude. After learning the wude, Ryo mistaken Hanhui for the master, as he believed that Lishao Tao was a man, until he revealed that Master Tao was in fact a woman named Xiuying Hong.
Hanhui can also teach Ryo a move called Lunging Strike if he airs out all the books at the Temple Library for two days. Each day that Ryo airs out all the books will have Hanhui give him a move scroll each day to practice since he is grateful that he is doing what Xiuying instructed him to do.
Before Ryo leaves Wan Chai for Kowloon, he can say goodbye to Hanhui who is inside the temple at the time. Once Ryo is ready to leave, he spars with Xiuying, and she teaches him the Counter Elbow Assault move. Hanhui acts as Ryo's opponent during the move instruction, and she tells him to show Ryo no mercy. Ryo is able to successfully perform the move on Hanhui.
Shenmue the Animation[]

Hanhui appears in Shenmue the Animation. In Episode 6, Ryo meets him at Man Mo Temple when looking for Lishao Tao. He tells Ryo that he will meet Master Tao once he learns the four wude. He learns one of the wude, "GON" from Jianmin Tao and visits the Temple again to tell Hanhui. Soon after, it is revealed that Master Tao is a woman named Xiuying Hong, who Ryo met earlier.
In Episode 7, Xiuying spars with Ryo, and he is easily overpowered by her. Once she releases him from her grip, she requests that he leave the country as she cannot help him. Hanhui suggests that Ryo go to the Guang Martial Arts School to learn the remaining wude.
