Kouji Hase (馳 浩司 Hase Kōji) is a young apprentice of Nagai Industries in Dobuita. He also secretly works as bodyguard for Jimmy Yan, the manager of Asia Travel Company.
Biography[]
Kouji is a man of questionable morality and knows nothing about duty and manners. Because Akira Nagai knows he wouldn't be able to handle Kouji on his own, he relegates Kouji to the job of standing guard at the entrance, and has assigned Toshiki Kagawa to become Kouji’s mentor. Kouji secretly earns extra money by working as a bodyguard for Jimmy Yan at the Asia Travel Company. During his time off, he enjoys hitting on women. Taking advantage of his good looks, he is a bit of a playboy.

- The name Kouji means "prosperous" (浩) (kou) and "officer, boss" (司) (ji).
- Kouji's surname Hase means "run, gallop, sail, drive (a wagon), win (fame), despatch" (馳).

- Kouji's Japanese voice actor in Shenmue is Takahiro Sakurai, who also is the Japanese voice actor for the main antagonist of the series, Lan Di. Sakurai also is the Japanese voice actor for Goro Mihashi and Shiro Kurita in Shenmue, and Zongquan Bai and the original male version of Yuan in Shenmue II. Kouji's English voice actor is unknown.
