Sega Corporation (株式会社セガ Kabushiki gaisha Sega) and usually styled as SEGA, is a Japanese multinational video game software developer and an arcade software and hardware development company headquartered in Japan, with various offices around the world. Sega previously developed and manufactured its own brand of home video game consoles from 1983 to 2001, but a restructure was announced on January 31, 2001 that ceased continued production of its existing home console, effectively exiting the company from the home console business.

Sega published Shenmue, Shenmue II, and other series' such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Fighter, and Yakuza.

The original Shenmue was the most expensive video game ever developed at the time it was made, though this development also covered some of Shenmue II and groundwork for future games in the series. In 2015, Sega licensed future Shenmue titles to Yu Suzuki's company YS Net and Sega still owns the license to the first two titles. At E3 2015, a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund Shenmue III was launched, and it was successful. The game ended up being released in 2019 and in 2018, Sega published a re-release of the first two games, Shenmue I & II for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
