Chunyun Liang (梁春云 Liáng Chūnyún) is Joy's unseen father.
Shenmue II[]
Chunyun is an well established Hong Kong businessman, who had business deals with Master Chen from Yokosuka and the chief of Fortune's Office Gonglin Sun. Because of his fame, Joy is also well known and respected in Hong Kong.
Shenmue the Animation[]
In the anime, Chunyun is mentioned several times, and he is referred to as "Chun" instead. Instead of being a respected Hong Kong businessman, he is a part of a cartel called White Tai and is a rival of the Yellow Heads. Due to his rivalry with the gang, his wife who is also Joy's mother became a target of the Yellow Heads, and they killed her. Joy feels her father is responsible for her mother's death, and cannot forgive him.
Due to him being confirmed to be a well established businessman in the games, who had deals with other respected businessmen like Master Chen and Mr. Sun, it is highly unlikely that him being a part of a cartel is canon to the games. Joy's mother's status in the game series is unconfirmed, as she is never mentioned in the games.
